Question:
I inserted MegaMix CD-ROM #1 into the CD-ROM drive and it does not start. How shall I
proceed?
Answer:
Run the installer by choosing install.exe from the root of your CD-ROM
drive. E.g. type d:\install.exe in Start : Run dialog box (if
your CD-ROM drive is denoted D:)
Question:
I installed MegaMix but cannot find its icon to start using the program
Answer:
Choose MegaMix : SuperMemo on your Start
menu (on Windows taskbar which you can open with Ctrl+Esc)
Question:
MegaMix installed OK but I cannot find out how to start using French and Spanish
collections
Answer:
At installation, you must remember to check those
collections in the tree of all collections to install (by default only ABC of SuperMemo
installs). Once you install French and Spanish, use File : Open in
SuperMemo to locate and open French.kno and Spanish.kno and choose Learn.
Remember you will need Disk #2 in your CD-ROM drive to have sounds and pictures in
multimedia collections.
Question:
I installed all collections of MegaMix and when I choose File : Open I
seem to see dozens of folders but no files to open
Answer:
Each SuperMemo collection is made of a file <collection
name>.kno and a folder. For example, Basic English.kno and [Basic English].
In File : Open you must locate the kno file (e.g. Basic
English.kno). Because Windows displays folders before displaying files, installing
300+ collections will make you either scroll through all those 300 folders or simply type
the name in File name field. Once you do it, you can select files from
the picklist on the File menu (up to 10 recent collections are listed
there). (note that picklist does not show in the Beginner level)
Question:
Can I upgrade my Advanced English 97 to Advanced English
98 available from MegaMix?
Answer:
Yes. You will have lost some items that have been removed or modified in the
new version. As for the material you have modified yourself, you will have to either
transfer it (using browser tools) or
introduce the corrections manually using the learning process transfer report
Question:
How can I get sound for Advanced English 98?
Answer:
You will only need to use CD-ROM #2 of Advanced English 97 (we will introduce a
special upgrade offer) and change the Secondary Store to your CD-ROM drive letter
Question:
How much hard disk space does MegaMix use?
Answer:
All collections take 1.3 GB space of which about 500 MB is installable on user
hard disk. However, you can choose only collections that interest you. The minimum
installation is 10 MB. Advanced English 98 takes about 30 MB. Other collections usually
take from 0.3 MB to 3 MB. The setup program shows you the space required as you select
individual collections
Question:
Is there an upgrade for registered users?
Answer:
Yes. Registered users of SuperMemo 8, SuperMemo 98 and
Advanced English can get MegaMix 99 at an upgrade price of $33 (instead of the full price
of $59)

Question:
I have SuperMemo for the Palm
Pilot, and was wondering if I can use the
databases in the MegaMix CD on it. Or if only some of the databases will work,
about what percentage?
Answer:
A large proportion of collections from MegaMix can be imported to Palm
SuperMemo. For this purpose, you will need to install MegaMix in Windows and use
File : Export : Q&A text (in SuperMemo for Windows) to export
collections in question-answer format. In case of language learning collections,
you will lose sound that illustrates individual items. Palm SuperMemo
database can have up to 64,000 items. In practice, you are limited by the
available memory of your device and the speed of your HotSync process. Unless
you use some 3rd party tool to speed it up, syncing about 10,000 items may take
some 15-60 minutes, depending on your Palm model version
