If SuperMemo asks you for a password or there is a red registration bar below the navigation bar, you are using a locked copy of SuperMemo. To unlock SuperMemo, input the password received in response to your order with File : Registration : Input password or run the registration procedure as described below.

When you use locked SuperMemo, you are given a credit of 100 points. Once this credit is used up, you will be asked to input the registration password. The credit available is displayed in the parentheses on the red registration bar (see above).

You can register SuperMemo at SuperMemo World and become a registered user of SuperMemo:

1. Click the red registration bar to open the registration dialog box (you can also open this dialog box if you (1) choose Register when SuperMemo asks you for the password or (2) choose File : Registration : Request password)
2. Fill out the fields Name, Country and Phone
3. Click Register
4. Respond with Yes to Send e-mail now?

Those four steps will result in sending an e-mail to register(AT)supermemo(.)com with your registration data. In response you will receive further instructions (how to pay for SuperMemo, how to get the registration password and how to input the password).

Important! If you have already purchased SuperMemo, you do not have to register it! You have been registered at the moment of charging your credit card. The only thing you have to do is to unlock SuperMemo by providing the password with File : Registration : Input password. Your password will be sent in response to your order within a business day. You are unlikely to ever need to input your password twice. However, in case you ever lost it, write to SuperMemoMail

You may wonder what is the reason behind using this complex registration mechanism. The advantage is ....

you can freely spread bare SuperMemo among your colleagues without violating your user license!

Important! You can only redistribute the following three files from the SuperMemo directory:

• sm98.exe (SuperMemo 98)
• \bin\tips.txt (the file with questions for Question of the Day)
• \bin\smhelp.chm (help file with the compiled SuperMemo Website)

In particular you must not redistribute your collections. These keep your registration data. Spreading them along with SuperMemo will violate your user license.

If you want to redistribute your own collections, you must use File : Registration : Unregister before putting your collections on the web or passing them to your colleagues

The goal of SuperMemo World is to popularize SuperMemo. We are happy with every new member of the SuperMemo family. We wanted to provide our customers with a free working version of SuperMemo. At the same time, we could not forget that the company has to earn for its operations. That is why we had to look for a way to balance the free download and distribution approach with some incentive for the user to pay the license fee (NB: one of the lowest in the industry)

Our experience showed that the shareware approach does not work at all! In the years 1991-1997 we have gained thousands of users of SuperMemo 2, SuperMemo 5 and SuperMemo 6. At the same time, we received less than 10 shareware registrations while the number of support requests was nearly a thousand times greater!

In 1998, we opted for the current registration scheme. We hope there are more benefits than problems

I am having difficulty unlocking SuperMemo? I get a dialogue box that asks whether I want to send e-mail now. I click Yes. But instead of sending my information to register I receive an error message "Cannot send e-mail - user abort". How do I register?
Answer:

1. All users who order SuperMemo are registered automatically
2. The error message may result from problems in communication between SuperMemo and your e-mail software. If you respond with No to Send e-mail now?, SuperMemo will generate a text file that you can e-mail to register(AT)supermemo(.)com

I read that I am automatically registered upon my credit card purchase; however, I didn't get a password to remove the red stripe and hopefully display other program options I read about. 1. You are automatically registered in our customer database and you can start using the program immediately
2. Within a business day you will receive further instructions that will help you remove the red stripe
3. You do not need the password to use 'other program options'. It is enough you turn on the professional mode with File : Level : Professional
